Before the start, a change of course was announced for the three fastest classes of yachts that were supposed to go all the way to the north-west point of the island, at Wekua. Since this was deemed to be too far under the wind circumstances of that day, that course was abandoned and all yacht classes sailed the same course, taking the boats to a mark near Pink Beach, behind the island of Klein Bonaire and to a mark near the WEB before returning again to the Kralendijk bay. All yachts finished in time, coming in in the course of the afternoon; no protests were filed.

The 44th annual Bonaire Regatta 2011 has successfully started on Monday October 3rd. With a big number of participants, a relaxed atmosphere, sunny cloudless weather and a good wind. Ideal circumstances for a successful regatta. Race director Viktor Wijnand can already look back on a
good start of this, the 44th edition of the Regatta: “We have a lot of participants and perfect sailing weather, certainly compared to what we had in the previous years. In 2010 we were confronted with a lot of rain and lack of wind, this year though it’s exactly the opposite”.

This year’s regatta registered 25 yachts, 50 small boats, 7 windsurfers and a still unknown number of microboats. The total number of participants will by far exceed the number of 150 and is divided as follows :

Cruiser 1: 4 registrations
